MARCH 18 & APRIL 15, 2020 LBBA MEETINGS CANCELED

Due to the spread of the corona virus, and recommendations from the
medical community to take swift preventative action to minimize its
spread as much as possible, the LBBA Board of Directors have decided
to cancel the March & April 2020 monthly meeting. This was a hard decision for us, but for the health of our members and our community, we feel it’s the right thing to do. We love our bees, but we love our members and our communities more.

We expect that the coming months will reveal the extent and true danger
of the virus, so it will be much more clear by mid-April whether we
can resume meetings or not. We will continue to monitor the progress
of the situation (as will everyone, no doubt) and we’ll keep you
apprised each month as to whether we’ll be able to hold a meeting
or not. Thanks for your understanding, and we look forward to
seeing all of you healthy (if not wealthy or wise…) soon.

Dr. Ramesh Sagili from the OSU Honey Bee Lab was kind enough to record his talk on projects that are taking place at the bee lab. He also has included information on the Asian Giant Hornet.

Use this link to watch the video: Dr. Ramesh Sagili Talk

This is our first attempt at posting a Zoom meeting. We will try to record future meetings and possibly host a live one soon.

Andony Melathopoulos, from OSU’s Department of Horticulture, will speak on “The (considerable) obstacles to building pollinator habitat in Western Oregon (and where we might get started). “

Why isn’t there more pollinator habitat in Linn and Benton County? Why aren’t the right of ways full of flowers, why aren’t acres of new hazelnut and hemp fashioned with pollinator hedgerows around the headlands, why are managed forests not plugging more bee plants into their plots? This talk explains what the obstacles are and offers some modest suggestions on how we might get around this.
