What is your plan?
At the March meeting I will discuss the PNW Honey Bee Survey. I encourage LBBA members who overwintered colonies to complete the survey, once they have tallied their overwintering results. The survey is open March and April. I anticipate the survival rate will be MUCH BETTER than last year when 16 members reported a 50% loss rate, the second highest of past 14 years and well above the 14 year LBBA average 36.3 percent loss rate. I will address how to flatten the growth curve of varroa mites (it starts in earnest in March) and how we might flatten the growth curve of bee colonies (starts in April) so colonies remain populous and they don’t swarm come April and May.
See https://pnwhoneybeesurvey.com/ (click on !Take the Survey!). It should take less than 5 minutes. This year, once again you can fast track your responses and only provide information on overwintering successes/losses and not include your managements.
