November 16th Meeting

mikerodia

This months meeting features speaker Mike Rodia from Salem.  He will be speaking on Single-Size Box Beekeeping and the Rose-Hive Method.

Bees on their own do not divide their hives into deeps for brood and supers for honey.  The use of different sized boxes and frames are an imposed condition that beekeepers place on their bees. This imposition can be of questionable benefit to the bees; while, it is of course, a particular benefit to the beekeeper.  Single-size boxes and frames and the use of Rose-Hive manipulations can provide benefits to both bees and beekeepers.  Hives can more nearly represent those that bees would construct if left on their own, while beekeepers can gain greater flexibility for manipulations and care of their bees.  At the same time, this practice will eliminate the need to provide and maintain different sizes of wood-ware, particularly the deep that can be very heavy when filled.
